This South West Region of France is known as the Lot-et-Garonne , a department (county).What a delight this corner of France is, the gentle sloping hills and fields that show off their diverse agricultural crops from sunflowers to corn, apples, plums and kiwis. Gentle winding roads and so very few cars, beautiful towns and villages where people always have time to talk to you.

The area can generally be described as a mixture of broad valleys and hillsides with ancient bastide towns and villages, each of which has its own charm offering some leisure and sports activities. We are located halfway between Bordeaux and Toulouse. 'Gone Fishin' is a perfect place to stay, exclusive for two offering peace and quiet but not isolated. Just a two-hour drive takes you to the Atlantic Coast or the Pyrenees, while three hours brings you to the Mediterranean.

The countryside in Lot-et-Garonne offers unlimited scope for walkers and cyclists, and visitors are well placed for boating with the River Baïse never far away.

Bastides and Historic Sites in the Lot et Garonne.
Lot-et-Garonne has more bastides than any other area of France. There are about 40.
The fortified towns were deliberately organised not around the castle or church as before, but around the marketplace and town hall.

Agriculture not only prospers here its produce is famous throughout France. Cereals are grown, cattle are raised and dairy farming is practised. Fruit growing is a speciality, including strawberries and succulent melons, and the department is particularly noted for the famous Agen 'prunes' (plums) and 'pruneaux' (prunes)! The vineyards produce good wines in the Duras and Buzet and Bordeaux areas.
The Lot et Garonne was first in Europe to grow tobacco on a commercial scale but is now the last tobacco-growing centre in France.
